🔹In our entire body we have only have about 2,000 calories worth of carbs stored. About 400 calories or 100 grams of that is in our liver as glycogen. The other 1600 are spread across all the muscles in our body (400 grams). - ⬇️It’s important to know that only the muscles being trained will drain their carb stores and the bigger the muscle group the more carbs it has. Probably one of my favorite posts I’ve ever done. Simply because too many people think carbs are bad and should be avoided. - 🤔Carbs get a pretty bad rap in the fitness realm. The good news is that carbs aren't bad for you nor do they make you fat. Only too many calories does that. - 💥So let's take a look at the types of carbs we have and some times that they're good to eat. Keep in mind that you *can* eat carbs any time of the day and be just fine, though some people prefer them at certain times above other times. - 🍎🥒Fruits and vegetables can pretty much be eaten in abundance because they're crazy low in calories and contains tons of vitamins, minerals, and fiber. Now, I'm not suggesting you follow the banana diet where you eat 36 bananas in a day, but if you're worried about eating too many fruits and veggies then you've really got nothing to worry about. - 🍠🍞Complex carbs are things like oatmeal, sweet potatoes, whole grain pastas and breads and more. These foods are higher in fiber and are slower digesting sources of energy. Think more sustained energy, here. These are good to eat at any time of the day that you need to round out a meal of protein and veggies and need some longer lasting energy. - 🍰Simple carbs get a ton of hate but we all love em. They're delicious and they actually do serve a purpose too, aside from making us smile. Think foods like cereals, white rice, cream of rice, gatorades, junk food type items. These can be beneficial after a workout to help replenish glycogen and top off energy stores. You can eat them at any time of the day but you will probably experience that *crash* lots of people talk about. That's simply your blood sugar spiking and then lowering. That's why it's a good idea to limit simple carbs to the times around your workout. - 🙏Keep in mind, carbs are very useful and they're not bad for you. Before and after... 100 minutes of cardio. This morning was all about smashing a goal that I set myself yesterday! The gym stepper... that dreaded machine that we all avoid yet feel amazing once we have finished. Red carrots have a higher content of important pro-vitamin A antioxidants such as beta-carotene and alpha-carotene, which benefit eyesight, skin health and the immune system. Full day of VACATION eating! 🍦✈️🍔 took a random, mini vaca to Albuquerque, NM with my best friend, @jess_freed ! No macro tracking on this vacation 🚫 but I did concentrate on eating 1) what I wanted 🍔🍟😍 and 2) being mindful about eating protein at my main meals. This post is just a reminder that part of vacations are experiencing the area’s culture, which generally involves local FOOD! I do a flush day or two at the beginning of the week to kickstart my body and to help rid that extra water weight my body is holding onto on those couple of cheat meals over the weekend 🍔🍟 . . Eat the rainbow, or, as I like to say, eat balanced everyday keeps the doctor away. 🌱This is my new #nourishbowl 🥗 it contains spinach🌿, quinoa🌾, avocado🥑, bell pepper🌶, baked sweet potato🍠, Brussels sprouts☘, cucumber🥒, pumpkin seeds🍊, hemp seeds🌰, and my ultimate protein veggie burgers with tahini dressing on top. 🌱Ingredients for the protein burgers: •2 cups of cooked black beans (organic preferently) •1 cup of quinoa •1 cup of oats •1/4 cup of pumpkin seeds •1 teaspoon of salt •Fresh cilantro (coriander) •1 red onion •6 garlic cloves •1 teaspoon of organic seasoning •1 teaspoon of cummin •Pinch of pepper •1 tablespoon of olive oil •(Add a little bit of water if needed) 🌱Mix everything in a food processor, except the oats. Then, add the mixture to a bowl and place the oats, separately, in the food processor and mix until it forms oat flour. Add the flour to the bowl with the mixture, and combine everything. Start making burger-shaped balls and place them on a baking sheet. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and bake the burgers for 30 minutes. Do you want to know a trick to dropping body fat while building muscle? It's called carb cycling. If you a beginner start by taking out all carbs on your days off from training. This pretty much ensures that you'll have a caloric deficit on these days... unless you're stupid enough to compensate by eating a whole brick of butter!
