The companionship that a pet offers is a great way to reduce anxiety and stress. A pet can be a great source of comfort, companionship and motivation for their owners. In many ways, pets can help us to live mentally healthier lives. Pets and depression Pets are also a great motivator for people. Dogs especially are great at encouraging owners to get exercise, and this can be beneficial for those suffering from depression. Pets can also have calming effects on their owner. Just by stroking, sitting next to or playing with a pet can gives owning a chance to relax and calm their minds. Caring for a pet also gives your day purpose and reward, and a sense of achievement. It also helps you feel valuable and needed. Pets and socialising Walking a dog often leads to conversations with other dog owners and this helps owners to stay socially connected and less withdrawn. People who have more social relationships and friendships tend to be mentally healthier. Pets and loneliness A pet is great companion. They give owners company, a sense of security and someone to share the routine of the day with. Confessions of a personal trainer🤓📝: I’ve been eating frozen meals all week- like the bad stuff- pizza, taquitos, burritos🙅‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤰and my stomach has definitely paid for it: I’ve been super bloated, I have a bigger “pouch” belly, and digesting all that mess has been so uncomfortable! 😖🤷‍♀️So today I got my s&!t together and finally baked some chicken and put together a simple salad: spinach, tomatoes, hard boiled egg, chicken and balsamic vinaigrette. Instantly- already feeling better 🙌🥗👍 . . . I post this because I know how hard it is for us to get on that right track of eating healthy. This week, I didn’t manage my time wisely and went towards bad (and easy) food choices. But I was definitely paying attention to what my body was telling me: I was tired, bloated, unmotivated, had no energy, easily irritated... I encourage you to just take note of how you feel after you eat something “bad.” Wouldn’t you want to feel better with more energy instead?! It isn't very much my style to post any kind of "progress photos" or suchlike. I prefer to post more of a real "fitness" content that can give a clearer and more realistic view of my trainings which can motivate or inspire others in their own lifestyle. . Because I believe our body is a precious gift and if it's healthy, it's our main goal to use its whole potential for the movement that we find suitable for us. . Because I believe the perfect body is not the final destination. That is to feel better mentally, spiritually and emotionally. The body is just a tool. . I believe exercising is a blessing, not a chore. I workout because I am grateful that I physically can. The physical appearance is just a bonus. . It’s #earthday and I am LOVING THIS SUNSHINE! ☀️🌎☀️🌍☀️🌎☀️🌍☀️🌎☀️🌏☀️ Did you know there is scientific evidence supporting sunlight therapy for #depression and other #mentalillnesses? 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼 There has been research examining the relationship of vitamin D to seasonal affective disorder (SAD), schizophrenia, and depression. Several studies have examined whether light therapy improved mood. Partonen, Vakkuri, Lamberg-Allardt, and Lonnqvist (1996) randomized 29 patients (16 with SAD and 13 controls) in a parallel fashion to either one hour or 15 minutes of light therapy in the morning for two weeks in the winter. . ————- . 🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞 One hour of light therapy SIGNIFICANTLY decreased depressive symptoms more so in the group with SAD than the control group (p = .003).🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞 . ————- . Gloth, Alam, and Hollis (1999) randomized 15 participants with SAD to either 100,000 IU of vitamin D (one time dose) (n = 8) or phototherapy (n = 7). They reported that depression (assessed with the Hamilton Depression Scale) decreased in persons who received vitamin D (from 10.9 to 6.2, p = .040) as compared to those who received phototherapy (from 12.6 to 11.3, p = ns). There were no untoward side effects from the dose of vitamin D; however, a limitation of the study was the one time dose. When i go through progress photos i remember how i felt while taking each one. This one in particular is my absolute favorite, not because of my physical appearance (or the fact that i felt like a ninja princess), but because for weeks I had been watching the scale do whatever the heck it wanted despite my goals, i mean plateau with a capital PLATEAU! The night before i remember asking myself what i really wanted out of this and was super tempted to say F it and just snack because i was in my feelings. But I had to check myself and realize i was being tempted and that’s usually what happens when you’re on the brink of greatness. So what did i do? I prayed, took my butt to bed and woke up feeling like i could take over the world. My scale said the exact same thing it had been saying, but i felt amazing, and I knew my process was far from over and i was ok with that. And not just Instagram caption worthy “ok with that,” I was truly content with where I was (unlike days before). Some of you may look and ask “what does she have to worry about the scale for.” But the competitive nature of chasing a goal can start to seep into your psyche and take over no matter where you are in your journey. So many competitors are unhealthy mentally because it’s a constant race to be better and it’s easy to get caught up in your own mind.
