Tri’s for my guy today 💪🏽‼️ been loving arm days these past couple of weeks which is something I couldn’t have said when I first started lifting. - I grew up with parents, titos, and titas who were not afraid to let you know when you looked like you were gaining some weight, or when your arms and legs were “getting too big”. In traditional Filipino culture, the female beauty standard includes being just the right kind of slender/thin (I suspect so that male egos are appeased and leads them to believe they can provide value to women by “being the ‘man’ and doing all the [for a lack of a better term] heavy lifting and laborious work” — a conversation for another day). In the later part of my adolescence, I experienced self image issues that were partly fueled by familial chatter at parties — “you’re gaining a lot of weight! maybe you shouldn’t lift so much” or “na taba ka yata!”. Maybe that’s why I found so much comfort in lifting; I feel like a rebel when I get a gnarly pump 😈. Even now, when I’m told not to “get too big” or “get too muscular” in fear that I’ll ‘look like a man’ 😂😂😂, I train just a little bit harder to give people something a bit more to chew on at the next family party 😉 #chismes #lolbye

Back Tuesday! I enjoy training my back, although the drawbacks of having a solid / toned back is ripping lots of my work dresses as the material of the clothing is not made for expanding traps🤣🤣. That being said I wouldn’t want it any other way. I would rather wear Lycra and spandex 😜 for the rest of my training days as long as I was happy with myself. Self love is important guys! As long as you are happy with yourselves who cares what anyone else thinks ❤️ On that positive note, sharing my latest back workout with you. Hello everyone!! After a lot of thought and research, I have recently started a KETO diet for the next 3-6 weeks (depending on how I like it, how my body adapts to it, etc)! A keto diet differs from my previous eating habits because instead of limiting fats and eating healthy carbs, I will be increasing my healthy fat intake and lowering my carb intake. This causes my body to burn fats for energy instead of carbs, essentially putting my body into a fat-burning state of KETOSIS. My goal is to get cut for the summer time and to benefit from the natural boosts of energy that comes with a keto diet. I DO NOT, however, recommend this diet to beginners because you have to be pretty strict on the carb intake and type of fats in order for it to work. Also purchasing keto-friendly foods, such as ghee and almond flour, can be a little on the expensive side. Regardless, I am excited to embrace this change and to (hopefully) reap the physical benefits of changing my diet this way. I will label any recipes I post as keto options, and be wary that many of these dishes are higher in fats if you decide to make them for yourself! I am not a doctor nor dietician, so the changes I am making in my diet are for my own personal journey. LEG DAY 🍑🔥 This week I’ve finally started putting my weights up since surgery (it’s been 5 weeks post opp on Thursday)! 2016-2018...One of my first major transformation picture. Would you laugh if i told you i thought i had a big butt in the first pic ? 😂 because i sure did. Ladies, i’m telling you, taking progress pictures are so worth it! These pictures were taking at the same exact hall, both were for a sweet 16, and they’re two years apart. Never did i ever think i’d have a booty before, but here i am starting to show one and i couldn’t be more proud of myself. What major workouts did i do to get where i am though? •SQUATS FOR DAYS: People always say squats don’t work, they’re pointless, but let me tell you that they play a huge role in my transformation. In the left picture i was attending the gym but only using the smith machine using light weight. On the right, as of now i continue to squat but i use the squat rack and i challenge myself to use higher weight the more i’m able to even if it’s only a few reps i can do. •Cable Pull Throughs: Squeeze your butt girls, it looks weird i know, but it’s gonna make you feel the burn even more. •Hip thrusts: Dont even get me started. I’ve been a busy bee lately these last couple days and took a few days off from the gym. I’m already excited to get back into it tomorrow though. Sometimes it’s nice to miss the gym. What you do between the sheets effects your gym sessions 🙈 - Not that type of between the sheets activity! We mean sleeping💪 Your sleeping habits can effect your gym gains. - 1. Stretch before you sleep. A 5 minute stretch will really help your flexibility and prevent injury in the gym. During sleep your muscles shorten so lengthening them before you sleep will reduce the risk of injury before you train the next day. - 2. Don’t use a soft pillow. A soft pillow can cause the chin to drop and create to much flexion in the neck leading to poor form in the gym and cervical disk issues. Opt for a firmer flatter pillow to keep the neck in a more neutral position. If your having neck issues check your pillow! - 3. Don’t sleep with one hand under your head. It can cause serious issues for you shoulder (internal rotation). If you insist on this sleeping position place your hand under the pillow not your head which reduces the pressure on your shoulder. Shoulder rotator issues a gym no no! - 4. Don’t sleep in a foetal position (on your side with knees tucked into chest). This position shortens the hip flexors which can cause anterior pelvis tilt, which leads to lower back pain and inactive weak glutes. This will severely impact your training. You can sleep on your side safely by sticking a pillow between your knees and moving them away from your chest. - 5. Loosen the sheets at the bottom of the bed. “Keep going, keep going, keep going” this is so much harder than it looks!!!!! I did 30 seconds rest for 10, 20 seconds rest for 10, 15 seconds and it killed me , was going to do 30/10 for all 3 sets but quickly changed my mind after the first 30 seconds where I almost died 😱
“I only want to be on a team of encouragers”. I hate deadlifts. They’re super difficult for me with my injuries. The ACL, and MCL, coupled with the damaged Achilles and lack of range of motion in both areas makes it tricky. Years of gymnastics has made my lower back a problem area too.. (for the form junkies that will hate and be quick to critique me or discredit my lift, I question if you had my injuries and knew you couldn’t do it perfect, if you’d be trying as hard as I am daily..). Despite my loathing of deadlifts Pash had me do them anyway, and truthfully if I have the ability to do a lift, I’m blessed. That’s one thing I love about training with him, he doesn’t even acknowledge my limitations, and that’s never worked against me. Most of the time I achieve things I didn’t know I was capable of when put in that position. Other times I fail and that’s okay. When we struggle it means we are pushing ourselves and working hard! Pulled 225 for one but needed a spot on the chest to tackle my form issues. Thankful for all of his help! I have so much fun training with him! We stay laughing but still work hard. If you watch until the end, you can see Jess trying to teach me posing! She’s a master! it’s been a funny day in the brain - mainly because I made myself binge the second season of 13 Reasons Why over the weekend even though I knew it probably wasn’t the best thing for me. I was right. I was actually fine until the last episode - which was more confronting than every other one but together. I’m determined not to get too in my head though, especially when my support systems aren’t as stable and present as they usually are. I’m going to study, nourish my body and relax. I went for a really long cleansing walk with a little bit of running in there too which felt really good. I also had a big cuddle with my doggo which always always helps 😌
